FINE PAIR OF 19th CENTURY FRENCH, SEVRES STYLE, PORCELAIN URN LAMPS.
Hand painted and signed, these striking 19th century French, semi-paste, porcelain urns mounted as lamps are in the Sevres taste and very possibly from the esteemed Sevres Company. Romantic images of a nymph with cherub, floating among swirls of brilliantly colored fabrics, are most striking. Even the gilded bronze mounts (female masks in the neoclassical taste), are especially lovely. Each urn measures 15 “ in height and is signed Darthuy.
Sevres produced some of the most exquisite porcelain throughout the 18th century. They enjoyed the patronage of King Louis XV and received much encouragement from his mistress, Madame de Pompadour. Some of the renowned artists who have painted for Sevres, include Francois Boucher and Jean-Honore Fragonard. |
